Now we’re coming out of winter and into the spring, it’s a good time to look at getting all those external jobs done on our properties, such as seeing to our roofs, to ensure they survive many more winters!
It’s important to not delay if you have a commercial business in need of roof maintenance. Otherwise, you can end up having to replace your roof entirely.
If you want to avoid a full replacement, you may consider painting it. Not many people know that as well as aluminium and metal roofs, you can also paint asphalt shingle, tiles, slate, and wood.
We recommend consulting with a professional before you consider the best way to repair or maintain your roof. However, if you are considering painting it, here are a few things to consider:
Things to Consider
Type Of Roof
This will determine whether or not your roof can be painted and which type of paint should be used.
The roof should be thoroughly cleaned before any painting job can be done. Bear in mind this can be quite a time-consuming task, especially if your building is under trees or in a heavily polluted area.
If there is any damage to the roof surface, you will need to look at getting this repaired before planning the painting. If damage is extensive, it may need to replaced.
Inspect & Remove Hardware
Before any paint can be applied to the surface, it is important to remove any screws, nails, or any other bonding. This is a good time to check the condition of these and replace any if necessary.
Remove Existing Paint
If your roof has multiple layers of paint from previous years, it is a good idea to remove as many of these as possible before adding new layers. If there are too many, the new paint may not be able to bond securely with the original layers and the roof may need to be replaced. We recommend consulting a professional for advice.
Unless you have a specific brand colour in mind, we recommend going for colours that reflect light and heat. The colours you can choose from will also depend on the type of roof you have.
