Repairs for fragile asbestos roofs
Asbestos Decramastic tile roofs can be extremely fragile, so they are often damaged by inexperienced trades or people walking on them incorrectly. It is very common for JP Franklin to be called out to fix a roof with dented tiles or broken battens that has started to leak.
We repair Decramastic, Super Six and fibre-cement shingle roofs using methods that keep the asbestos intact and fibre release to a minimum – wetting materials, avoiding power tools on asbestos and removing damaged pieces whole.
Example: Decramastic tile replacement in Papatoetoe
At a home in Papatoetoe, dented Decramastic tiles around a leaky area had compromised the roof’s ability to stay watertight. We carefully removed the damaged tiles and supplied and installed brand-new Decramastic-profile tiles that matched the existing roof. The job was completed in one day with minimal disruption, and we left the site clean and tidy.
Repair or replace?
A repair makes sense when the damage is local and the rest of the roof is sound. If your asbestos roof is leaking in several places, heavily mossed, crumbling at the edges or more than 40 years old, a repair may only buy a short time. We’ll give you an honest assessment of both options, including asbestos roof replacement and encapsulation.
