Why the North Shore has so many asbestos roofs
The opening of the Auckland Harbour Bridge in 1959 triggered rapid growth on the North Shore. Suburbs such as Glenfield, Birkenhead, Northcote, Sunnynook and Browns Bay filled with new homes through the 1960s, 70s and 80s – exactly when Decramastic tile roofs, Super Six roofing and fibre-cement cladding were most popular.
Those roofs are now 40 to 60 years old. Decramastic tiles dent and lose their coating, Super Six becomes brittle, and owners are choosing to replace rather than keep patching.
North Shore asbestos services
We test roofs and claddings before renovations and sales, remove asbestos roofs and replace them with long-run Colorsteel or metal tiles, remove cladding and interior asbestos, and help body corporates plan roof replacements across unit blocks.
