Asbestos in Remuera homes
Remuera’s leafy streets are lined with villas, bungalows and grand older homes – most of which have been renovated or extended over the decades. It’s those renovations, especially from the 1950s to the late 1990s, that commonly introduced asbestos: fibre-cement linings in bathrooms and laundries, textured ceilings, vinyl flooring and replacement roofing.
Remuera and neighbouring Meadowbank and St Johns also have many 1950s–70s homes and blocks of units with Decramastic tile roofs and Super Six garages. Those roofs are now 40–60 years old and increasingly leaking.
Renovating a Remuera home?
Test before you start. An asbestos survey before demolition or alterations protects your builders and family and keeps your project on schedule. If we find asbestos in the roof, we can remove it and install a new roof that suits the character of the home.
