Asbestos in West Auckland
West Auckland grew rapidly from the 1960s to the 1980s, with large areas of family housing and state housing in suburbs such as Henderson, Te Atatū, Kelston, Glen Eden and Massey. Asbestos cement roofing, Decramastic tiles, fibre-cement cladding and textured ceilings were all common at the time.
The west’s history of orchards and vineyards also left behind sheds and outbuildings roofed with Super Six.
