Character homes, hidden asbestos
Mount Eden is famous for its villas and bungalows, and many sit within character overlays that encourage restoration rather than replacement. The original timber construction rarely contains asbestos, but the lean-tos, back porches, bathrooms, laundries and sleep-outs added from the 1950s to the 1990s often do – usually as flat fibre-cement sheets, textured ceilings or vinyl flooring.
Some Mount Eden homes also had their original roofs replaced with Super Six or Decramastic tiles in the mid-20th century. If yours did, it is likely nearing the end of its life.
Restoring a villa or bungalow
We’ll test the materials your builder plans to disturb, remove the asbestos safely and, if needed, replace the roof with new long-run Colorsteel that suits a character home.
