Get rid of your asbestos roof – and get a new one
Asbestos roofing was widely used on New Zealand homes from the 1940s to the 1980s because it was durable and fire resistant. We now know the fibres pose serious health risks when they become airborne, and an ageing asbestos roof is a growing problem: it cracks, leaks, grows moss and becomes too brittle to repair.
Replacing it protects your family’s health, removes the asbestos from your property for good, and adds value and appeal when you come to sell.
Because JP Franklin is a roofing company with asbestos expertise, you don’t need one contractor to remove the asbestos and another to build the new roof. We handle the whole project, so there is one point of contact, one schedule and one quote.
How the project works
- Inspect – we assess the roof, take samples if needed and measure up.
- Identify – laboratory results confirm whether the roofing contains asbestos and what type.
- Plan – you get a written quote and, for licensed work, an asbestos removal control plan.
- Remove safely – the old roof is wetted down, lifted off sheet by sheet and wrapped on site.
- Transport & dispose – waste goes to a licensed facility and you receive the dockets.
- Install your new roof – new battens where needed, underlay, roofing, flashings and spouting.
- Complete – final inspection, full site clean-up and your warranty documents.
Choosing your new roof
- Long-run Colorsteel – the go-to replacement for Super Six and Decramastic roofs. Lightweight, strong and available in a wide range of colours.
- Metal tiles – keep the tiled look of a Decramastic roof without the asbestos.
- Asphalt shingles – a natural fit for homes that had fibre-cement shingles.
We only use quality, NZ-approved roofing materials, and our own roofers install every roof – we don’t outsource.
