Asbestos was commonly used in New Zealand homes built before the mid-1980s, and asbestos fibres can have hazardous outcomes if they become airborne and are inhaled. If you’re planning to renovate a home built before 2000, or one already shown to contain asbestos, it must be dealt with before renovation work can proceed – by a licensed and experienced asbestos removal company.
On this Auckland home our crew worked in full protective suits and respiratory protection behind scaffolding and edge protection. The old roofing was removed piece by piece, wrapped in heavy plastic on the roof and lowered for licensed disposal. With the roof stripped back to the battens, we replaced damaged timber, laid new underlay and installed a brand-new long-run roof – so the family went from an asbestos roof to a new roof with one contractor.
When the removal is complete, the property owner receives documentation confirming the area is safe and the asbestos has been removed.
